An effort to recall Berrien County Drain Commissioner Roger Zilke has failed. A Saint Joseph area business owner named Ronald Zwar had been seeking petition signatures to have Zilke removed from office over his plans for the Hollywood Drain Project. The project is intended to reduce flooding in neighborhoods around Saint Joseph, Lincoln, and Royalton Townships, but Zwar says it's too expensive. By the deadline for turning in his recall petitions, Zwar had managed to collect around ten-thousand signatures, but needed 13-thousand. He says there are a number of reasons why the effort came up a little short:
The drain commissioner eventually scaled back his plans for the Hollywood Project, but Zwar says he may try again:
Zwar says that he'd like to run for the office of drain commissioner, should Roger Zilke seek it again.
